• A drop-down theme by CSS Play is a variation on the CSS only drop-down menu system. This works in IE5.5, IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera, Netscape 8 and Mac Firefox 1.5 and Safari though not Mac IE5.x. It does not have the extra sublevel items but these can easily be added.

• CSS only dropdown menu is an example of a flexible width top level list that expands to fit the text.
  It has a fixed height and uses a background image that stretches the full width of the outer div, in this case 750px, and a background div in each top level link to mark the right hand edge of the link.

• CSS only flyout menus

• CSS only flyout/dropdown menu works in IE6, Firefox, Opera, Netscape 8 and hopefully a few Mac browsers as well.

• CSS only flyout menu with transparency works in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. The semi-transparency is done using a background png image for Firefox and Opera 9 (which supports png transparency) and IE’s own transparency filter.

• CSS only vertical sliding menu does require that all the sublevel lists are the same height irrespective of the number of submenu items. If they were different heights than the top level items would jump around with no control as each top level was selected. It works in IE6, Firefox 1.5.0.4, Opera 9, can be made to work in IE5.5 with a couple of hacks.

• Professional centered sliding doors dropline menu The top level links use the ’sliding doors’ technique so that they can accommodate any length text (within reason) and are centered in the menu. The drop line links use changing background images, can have text of any length and are also centered in the menu.

Bookend Lists: Using CSS to Float a Masthead – an article that shows how to create a "bookend" look with elements on either end of a box using CSS-styled lists. This CSS-layout technique saves a significant amount of HTML code over table-based techniques. Tests with working code yielded savings in page size ranging from 30% overall to over 73% for the HTML code alone.

CSS Tabs – the page demonstrates a pure CSS method to generate a ‘Tab’ style interface. The code is very simple, the CSS is embedded to let you see ‘under the hood’. Most of the action occurs in the list styling. If the tabs don’t ‘align’ properly to the top of the box, alter the font-size and line-height of the li element to suit. Changing font will require finding the ’sweet’ spot at which different browsers render identically.

CSS tabs with Submenus – is a way of accomplishing tabs and subnavigation using only CSS and nested unordered lists. The list markup doesn’t change from page to page. The highlighted tab is determined from the ID of the body element, not by changing the IDs of each tab.

Multiple Column Lists method to make a list display as multiple columns of list items, rather than as a single column or horizontal row. This can be a big space saver in some page designs, while still retaining the vertical ordering of a list. This new method gives the ability to provide screen readers with a source order that runs down each column instead of across each row.

CSS Design Templates provides templates that you are free to use and modify for any purpose, but you must include the provided link back to this website.

Ex-Designz offers more than 300 (X)HTML-based CSS-templates.

Mollio is a simple set of html /CSS templates. Its aim was to create a set of page templates that use CSS for layout as well as some sample basic content which has also had some CSS applied.

Six Shooter Media offers 15 Templates. The templates are just a skeleton which you can use to build your own web site, or WordPress Theme.

OSWT project was founded as a site for users with no design skills to quickly put up a site and showcase their content and as a way for designers to share their designs and showcase their talent.

Maxdesign offers a range of CSS page layouts, including 2 column and 3 column layouts – free to use and abuse as needed.

CSSplay provides dozens of free professional layouts. Most of my demonstrations can be used without asking for permission. However, some will require email approval first.

CSS Intensivstation contains 15 Layouts. All templates are XHTML 1.0 and CSS2

CSSFILL is a place where you will find a selection of completely free CSS / XHTML based layouts & templates designed by Michael Strand.

CSS Frames Layouts – tableless, CSS based page templates to quickly define the skeleton of your pages.

CSS Template Gallery includes a search function, however it offers only 32 templates.

Jimmy Lin offers 100% valid CSS/XHTML and compatible with IE5.0+, FireFox 1.5, Opera 8.5, and Safari 2. They do not use any hacks, and can easily be modified. There are no copyright restrictions on these templates, but you can include a linkback.

Layout Gala offers 40 professional Layouts. They use valid markup and CSS, and have been tested successfully on Internet Explorer/win 5.0, 5.5, 6 and beta 2 preview of version 7; Opera 8.5, Firefox 1.5 and Safari 2.

Little Boxes contains 16 Layouts, classic.

Solucija is a free XHTML / CSS website templates available to use without any limitations. They can be used on a noncommercial site as well as on a commercial one. Keeping a small credit link in the footer is not obligatory but shows your appreciation and support.

The Layout Reservoir offers two column layouts (left and right menus) and three column layouts. Though you need not give credit to BlueRobot.com, a comment in your source code would help other developers to find this resource.

Inknoise offers Layout-o-matic – a tool which allows to select a layout type, width, and other options to the left, and then click Download or View and pick up your multi-column CSS layout starter kit (turning it into something unique and beautiful not included). You’re welcome to use the resulting generated layouts for any purpose, personal or commercial.

Code Sucks offers about 100 CSS Layouts for download. All CSS Layouts were made for 1024 x 764 screen resolution.

SSI Developer offers CSS templates that are constructed using XHTML1.0 and CSS2. Please note: these CSS templates are a learning tool and should be thoroughly tested before being used on a ‘production’ web site. The templates are valid CSS2 and XHTML1.0 Transitional and have been tested on WinXP with IE6, Opera 7.11 and Mozilla 1.5b as well as Firefox 0.8 & Netscape 7.1 (which are basically the same as Mozilla).

Ruby Script Beautifier is itself written in Ruby, and it is surprisingly short. The script accepts a command-line list of file names, creates a backup copy of each named file and beautifies the originals. If there is an indentation error (an imbalance of opening and closing keywords), the script will print an error message but will save the result anyway. Indentation errors that appear in functional scripts are obviously the fault of the beautifier, not the script.

Quick Highlighter can format source codes written in over 85 languages – among them PHP, Ruby, HTML, JavaScript, Perl, Python, Smarty, XML, CSS, Delphi, C++, and more. The tool formats source code and highlights inbuilt keywords, data types etc.

Tabifier is a tool to properly indent computer code. It currently supports CSS, HTML, and C Style code; the latter being anything that uses curly braces to start and end blocks, and semicolons to terminate statements. JavaScript and PHP both fall into that latter category. (For JavaScript, only when you put the semicolons in, which you always should even though they’re technically optional.)

CSS Beautifier offers a variety of options, among them – Style Rule Settings, Style Property Settings, Alphabetizing Feature and De-Capitalization Feature.

CSS Formatierer und Optimierer is based on csstidy 1.3dev. The service is available in 4 languages : English, Deutsch, French, Chinese. It provides different compression layouts; you can sort selectors, properties, regroup selectors, optimize shorthands, compress colors, compress font-weight, discard invalid properties and add timestamps. It also allows to create a custom template the system will use to format the code. Note that your code should be well-formed. This is not a validator which points out errors in your CSS code.

Highlight.js is a tool that highlights syntax in code examples on blogs, forums and in fact on any web pages. It’s very easy to use because it works automatically: finds blocks of code, detects a language, highlights it. It also allows highlighting for code examples marked up with writing syntaxes like Markdown where there is no way to specify HTML class easily. The program knows following languages: Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, XML, HTML, CSS, Django, Javascript, VBScript , Delphi, Java, C++, RenderMan (RSL and RIB), SQL, SmallTalk, Axapta, and 1C.

Code Beautifier Plus knows only 3 languages – Java, C# and ActionScript.

PHP Formatter is a free tool is designed to apply your own style. This is handy for the following reasons: you’ve downloaded an unreadable script or a script that doesn’t fit your style, years ago you made a script that doesn’t fit your current style, you want to publish your script, but it has to fit the PEAR style. There’s an option to color the code, delete newlines and/or comments and comment after control structures. Formatted code works exactly the same as non-formatted code. You can use your own styles. It’s suitable for PHP 4 and PHP 5. There’s an option to link PHP functions to the manual.

PHP Code Beautifier is a tool is designed to beautify PHP code. It applies most of the PEAR standard requirements to it. It can even process really scrambled scripts, e.g. all code in one line, and thus may help you to get scripts into a more readable form. It sets missing line breaks without removing any additional line breaks that you may use to group related things, and corrects wrong indentation according to the level of nested braces.

PrettyPrinter is a source code beautifier (source code formatter), similar to indent. It knows PHP, Java, C++, C, Perl, JavaScript, and CSS.It is advisable to make a backup before you replace your code.

PHP_Beautifier is a Open Source PHP application, distributed under the terms of PHP Licence 3.0. This program tries to reformat and beautify PHP 4 and PHP 5 code automatically. This tool may be useful for developers who get PHP code from other coders and are slightly confused, for those who can’t read their own PHP code anymore, and for those who want to share their PHP code.

Online Beautifier for JavaScript is a script that is intended to explore ugly javascripts, e.g compacted in one line, Use it if you want to pretty-format your javascripts. PHP source can be seen online or fetched from subversion repository at svn://edev.uk.to/beautify.
